One-Year-Old Girl Fatally Struck by Vehicle Outside of Her Home on Murfreesboro Pike
The one-year-old girl fatally injured this afternoon after being struck by a Honda CRV outside of her home on Murfreesboro Pike has been identified as Madisson A. De La Paz Garcia. The preliminary investigation indicates children were playing outside when Mirna A. De La Paz Garcia, 26, the child’s aunt, arrived in the Honda to visit.
De La Paz Garcia said she believed all of the children had followed her into the home once she arrived. When she returned to the Honda and began to pull forward, she hit the child. She said she didn't realize the one-year-old was close to her vehicle.
Madisson was transported to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital where she died.
De La Paz Garcia was issued a state citation for not having a driver license. The Tennessee Department of Children's Services is following up.
